SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
When you hire a drone operator, you're not just paying for a camera in the sky — you're trusting someone with your property, your event, and potentially your liability. Blue Skyz 360 is fully certified and compliant with all applicable FAA regulations for commercial unmanned aircraft operations. Every flight we conduct is legal, authorized, and executed by a licensed remote pilot who understands the rules of the airspace.
Operating commercially without an FAA Part 107 certificate is illegal under federal law and exposes clients to significant liability. Always verify your drone operator's credentials before booking. Our certificate number is available upon request, and we carry commercial drone liability insurance on every mission.
Every Blue Skyz 360 pilot holds an active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate — the federal license required to operate unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) commercially in the United States. Earning this certificate requires passing a rigorous knowledge exam covering airspace classifications, weather interpretation, emergency procedures, and federal aviation regulations. Our pilots renew their knowledge currency through recurrent training to stay current with evolving FAA guidance.
Many of our operating areas along the Texas Gulf Coast fall within controlled airspace near Houston airports, Galveston, and Beaumont. We use the FAA's Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) system to obtain real-time airspace authorizations for flights in Class B, C, D, and E surface airspace. When LAANC is unavailable, we apply directly through FAA DroneZone for manual waivers, ensuring every flight is fully authorized before liftoff.
Certain missions require operating beyond the standard Part 107 rules — flying over people, operating at night, flying beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), or using multiple drones simultaneously. Blue Skyz 360 pursues FAA waivers for these advanced operations when required, working through the official waiver application process and submitting detailed safety cases. This allows us to handle complex industrial inspections, large event cinematography, and other specialized work safely and legally.
Before every mission, our team checks for active Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs), and any site-specific restricted areas. The Gulf Coast region can see TFRs triggered by sporting events at NRG Stadium, presidential movements, emergency response operations, and wildfire activity. We monitor these in real time through ForeFlight and the FAA's official TFR portal, adjusting mission timing or location as needed to maintain compliance.
